Kiwi christmas is pretty different to what the kids know about already! I introduced them to our way of doing christmas by a simple true or false quiz. I then mentioned that they might know the song `Winter Wonderland` but that we have a different version in NZ so we watch the making of the Summer Wonderland song (thanks airnz!). First, i show the video with Japanese subtitles so they can actually get some of the jokes.

I then explain that we are going to listen to the song again got them to make their lunch groups while I handed out the listening activity worksheet. explain that the words they need are on the sides, they need to listen to the song and put the words in the blanks (I used the shorter video without japanese subtitles for this). After listening to the song once, they can check with their group quickly before we listen a second time. again check with their group afterwards. then go through the answers using the power point. I just read the sentences and stopped when I got to a blank and got the class to say the missing word together.

I printed the word match on the back of the listening activity so after we finished the listening answers, I got them to start matching the words by drawing a line. These words are in the song and/or video. While they were doing this, I wrote the words from each column on the board in the way that they appear on their worksheet (I asked my JTE to do the Japanese column!). Some students are faster than others and finished early so I got them to practice the tongue twisters. Once most of the students were finished we went through each word, asking the students to volunteer answers for where the lines should be drawn.

Then I ended the lesson with the word search and played some christmas songs!
